WDYTO Ever for a girl? I am pronouncing it like the word. Do you think it is usable? I'm really starting to like it. Any combos or issues you see occurring with it?

I've met an Ever
One of my former co-workers had a side business, and Ever was her partner.
At first, I wasn't sure what to think of it, but I grew to like it. It wasn't weird or awkward, and nobody seemed to have a problem with ever-the-word vs Ever-the-name any more than they did with my coworker's name (also a common word: May). I went along to a trade show as their helper, and Ever received lots of gushy compliments on her name from potential customers. She said it was always like that.
I wouldn't use it myself unless it was a nickname, but I think it's all right.

That is what I was thinking, that it would kind of be dissociated from the word and thought of as just a name (like May or Rose or whatever, used as both a word and a name).

Except you say "Ever" much more than you say May and Rose. You also say Never a lot.
"Immer" is the German word for always and it's pronounced almost exactly like Emma. I turned my head a lot in Austria! It's still a common female name there though... hm

This isn't a comment on your opinion of Ever or anything. I just feel the need to say something about the "Everyone compliments my name" argument that I hear a lot.
People do that to names they don't like!

Yeah, I've given plenty of compliments on names I don't like, mostly to counteract the expression of disgust I'm sure is spread across my features. There's no doubt a percentage of the people I mentioned weren't sincere, but most of them didn't ping my fake-dar. I felt like there were a lot of genuine "ooh, I like that!" reactions.

You know a surefire way to tell if someone is faking it? When they use the word "interesting" to describe a name. I've done it, myself.

They say it's very pretty primarily so they can justify telling you about the dog.

I actually like it. I don't think I'd use it but I think it's nice. It makes me think of eternity for some reason. Again I probably wouldn't use it but I like it in theory. You could call her Everly nn Ever that would be less problematic.

I know it isn't popular on here, but I like Everly quite a bit. Not Everleigh or Everlee or anything other than Everly though. I tell myself that Everly is Beverly without the "B" :-)
I dittoed a comment below on the issues of being named such a common use word and that is a big reason I wouldn't use Ever as a given first name. Maybe I would use it in a double name though. Something like Ever-June or Ever-Mia as a first name would be nice...

I like it as a nickname for Everild. But besides that, it's not my style as a full first name.

Issues occurring with it? I wouldn't want to go through life with Ever as my personal name. Would you? Seriously. The word is far, far too basic and common in the English language. It'd be like being named Only or Because. It'd be much worse than being named Always. I'd guess I say or hear the word "ever" in conversation during the day, probably a dozen times a day on average ... and that's just talking with my own family around the house. Combined with the number of times people say the word "every," I'd start barking if that was my name. Ugh! And don't get me started about the punning potential. haha. I mean, if you address someone named Ever, what do you say? You'd say:
Ever?

Just adding ... it's not that I'd be bothered about it being someone else's name. I'd be occasionally amused, and might have to struggle not to giggle at my own tendency to pun with it now and then. But I don't think it'd be too big a problem for people besides the bearer, and probably lots of people would ooh and ahh over it, just like they do over most every unusual name as long as it is easy to say.
The big problem I have with it is just that I wouldn't want to be a bearer. I wouldn't want to be called by it, because the word would bug me so much. It's both mundane and insubstantial IMO, because it's a common word and doesn't carry a lot of "eternity" meaning normally. So I'd not only tire of pricking up my ears any time someone said ever or every - I'd feel like the pedestrianness of the word got on my face, somehow. Who? Whoever! If it were a rarer word it might not bother me.

Agree. It's a stupid name and I wouldn't be able to take anyone seriously who was called Ever.
