I only like it pronounced CLAHR-ah because it sounds so much prettier and softer. CLER-ah just sounds so unpleasant. But then maybe I'm biased because my best friend is called Clara.

I think it's a really beautiful name with a lovely meaning too. It doesn't seem at all dated to me, actually, and "trendy" isn't necessarily a good thing in my book anyway.
