Gary or Igor?
My cousin wants to change his name from Igor to Gary, but I'm not sure which name is better? What do you think?

Hm... I get very different feels from them. I actually like Gary better. I think it's a warm and friendly name. Igor I can't really pin down the feel of.ETA: Completely read that wrong, read it as wanting to change to either Gary or Igor. I would go with whatever feels right, if he feels like a Gary and not an Igor then I think going by Gary for awhile as a trial period could be a good idea.

Igor is rather unfortunate, so I can definitely understand wanting to change that. However, Gary would not be a first pick, though I suppose it would be acceptable as long as he never plans to go to Japan. (the Jpns. word geri which is prn'd the same as the En. name Gary means diarrhea)... may be something to give him an FYI on and then he can decide for himself on that.

I don't really like Gary but I think it's much better than Igor. Igor has that unattractive hard G sound in the middle, and it makes me think of a sidekick of a mad professor!

Igor is WAY better.

Igor makes me think of the assistant in the "Frankenstein" movie, it makes me think of psychopathic KGB agents, it makes me think of agricultural labourers of limited intelligence. So, while I'm not a huge fan of Gary, I still think it would be a great improvement on Igor. For your cousin, it also has the advantage of phonic links to his original name.
