I like Rain! I also like Raine, mostly after a character named Moiraine but now I just like it on its own merits too. I know one little girl named Rayne, and I've also met a girl named Rain. I've never met a guy Rain. I don't like it on a boy nearly as much as a girl anyway.. I like Rainy as a nickname (or Rainey, etc.)
I think rain has pretty imagery. Sure, rain can be annoying sometimes, but that's a risk with any word name. Like Summer-- summer is a season, usually seen as good but there are many annoying things about it (like being too hot, etc.) I don't think something like that should keep you from using a name.

I like it as a MN, on a girl. It's one of DHs favorite names but I'm not a big fan of word names as FNs, it seems a little tricky for the bearer.

As middle name it's okay. I don't think it works as a first name especially spelt Rain. If it's spelt Raine or Rayne it looks less wordy. I preferr it on I girl.

Rain or Rainie can make a nice nickname for a more substantial first name, for example Lorraine "Raine".

I personally don't like the meaning of Rain - I don't like rain at all, we get too much of it here and it's always cold rain!

Whenever my kids do any pretend play that involves horses, they always use the names Rain and Spirit from the movie. So for me, Rain is a horse name. Sorry.
