Re: London Telegraph Sibset BAs: Part One.... WONDERFUL
haha yeah, formula of acceptability.I dunno if they're all white-people names, so much as they Could Be White. They're hipsterish middle-classy names ... self-conscious about how The Resume will look, and striving to salute and meet established measures of respectability - but obviously still determined to avoid an impression of mediocrity or conformism. Some seem to be names sought out from from name books and lists and websites, and picked because they're "un-common, but Legit(TM)," or they're antique and evocative and haven't been seen on anyone living today, or otherwise they just hit the coolness target. That's fine with me. I like many of them and I relate to the style (except stuff like Calypso and Coco and Hero, and sibs Saskia and Algernon for Hector and Sophia - lol, I could never do that). But I think it's kind of funny to describe the list as "WONDERFUL" and get all excited about it, as if this style of names really is obviously great in itself. I assume that is not what Catalina meant - she's expressing an opinion of course - but it came off as kind of funny to me.

Right, I don't have a problem with it either, but using adjectives like "WONDERFUL" and "AMAZING" and "FANTASTIC TASTE" is kind of like walking into a room full of people with white socks and going "OH MY GOD I LOVE THESE FREAKING WHITE SOCKS. THEY'RE SO TASTEFUL"
