Amelia... Wouldn't use it because the Amelia Bidelia books automatically come to mind when I hear the name and that woman was a ditz... However, not a fan of Emilia.

In a vacuum, Emilia. I think Amelia is so much more popular and familiar, though, I don't think Emilia would be worth the trouble...and Amelia is lovely, anyway. Long way of saying, I slightly prefer Emilia, but I'd actually use Amelia.

Amelia...which I love

AmeliaThey're pronounced differently for me. Am and Em are not the same, Amelia has 4 syllables and I'd probably pronounce Emilia with three: em ILL ya. They're both okay but Amelia wins because it's a family name, and I find it friendlier.

AmeliaAmelia by far, Emilia just doesn't look pretty to me.

I prefer Emilia. I like Amelia, but Emilia has a smoother, more elegant look.

Emilia!I don't really view them as the same name at all; I pronounced them sllightly differently and think of them in different contexts, but I definitely prefer Emilia! It's less popular, doesn't have the possibility of being dated, and it's Shakespearean to boot! (Also my name starts with Em, so I might just be biased).

AmeliaAmelia. Emilia looks weird to me.

AmeliaEmilia is overdone.I don't pronounce them at all the same, though.

Really? Amelia seems to be a lot more popular than Emilia in my experience.

I think she meant overdone like pretentious, not overused. Otherwise I'd be confused too- I've met at least 3 Amelias and I've never met a single Emilia.

No, overused. :) Emilia is really really popular on baby/toddler girls here. Especially as a middle name. Amelia on the other hand isn't much used here, so it feels like a breath of fresh air to me. I don't live in English-speaking country, though.

Emilia!!Yeah, I'm rather passionate about it since Emilia lost out to Amelia on another thread like this. :pEmilia is classic and elegant. Amelia has always reminded me of her less classy cousin (though its still nice).

Emilia, hands downI love Emilia, but I don't really like Amelia. Amelia feels sort of whiny and pretentious, whereas Emilia is beautiful and regal. Idk, it doesn't make much sense, but that's how I feel.Although I pronounce them slightly differently.
Amelia = "ah-MEEL-ya"
Emilia = "eh-MEE-lee-uh"
