I think Edith is very sweet and I LOVE Edie! I most definitely think it would be acceptable to use Edith these days, not a problem. You could pretty much guarantee they'd be the only child in the class with that name, which is not a bad thing imo. Edith Guinevere is a gorgeous combo. Felicity, Elodie, Elsa, Zipporah, Eloise, Stella, Gwendolyn (prefer this spelling) and Elizabeth are all lovely too.
