My daughter thinks so. DH's stepmother was Edith Elizabeth, though she didn't use either of them, and we gave our daughter Elizabeth as a mn. She has never stopped thanking us for not going the Edith route instead!That said, she's got a friend named Gladys ...

Really? Of all names to hate, it's Edith? Why is it so bad? I don't understand.

It's just ugly and frumpy. Doesn't sound very nice. Same category as Ethel. Very few names can pull off the th sound in the end or middle position and sound good to my ears as well as some others. That doesn't mean that YOU can't like it. It's just really unappealing to a number of ears.

I understand that some people might not like Edith, I just couldn't figure out why. I get it now. Thanks.

You're welcome. Could use it as a mn if you want and use both names as the child's growing up, incl. nns like Edie and let her choose which of those she wishes to go by as she grows up.
