I always think of Alexander as a really popular and boring name. It's been on average #20 in the top names in this country, and is common in many countries. However, I only know 3 guys called Alex, and one of them is Alexey rather than Alexander, and I have never met an Alex aged less than 15.

How many Alexanders do you know? And what age are they?
Do they go by Alex or Lex or Xander or something else?
Do you think it's boring and too common?
