Maeve + Isabel, Annabel, etc. minus all the extras = Mabel. Should be popular, my guess is that it's too simple to interest anyone who loves longer, more exotic, or more flowery names. My dh's grandmother was Mabel, born to Swedish parents who immigrated to the US. I tend to equate it with Hazel in terms of mood and sound, I prefer Hazel, but really like them both.
