Maeve + Isabel, Annabel, etc. minus all the extras = Mabel. Should be popular, my guess is that it's too simple to interest anyone who loves longer, more exotic, or more flowery names. My dh's grandmother was Mabel, born to Swedish parents who immigrated to the US. I tend to equate it with Hazel in terms of mood and sound, I prefer Hazel, but really like them both.

Really? Hazel and Mabel same in mood and sound? Mabel seems cute and sweet and ladylike while Hazel is more army sargeant or cafeteria lady image-wise in my mind... and I'm ok w/ both names. They just have very different images to me.
