Re: Masculine Nicknames on Girls
in reply to a message by Esyllt
I prob'ly wouldn't address a Roberta as just Rob or Bob, but maybe as Robbi or Bobbi... I wouldn't be likely to reduce Thomasina to Tom or Tommy... Wouldn't shorten Alberta to Bert, but maybe Al or Ally...
However, some that are fun...
Frankie for Francis or Francesca
Sam for Samantha
Danni for Danica, Danielle or Daniella
Billi for Willamina or even just on its own... I prefer it just on its own
Ricki just as is
Toni for Antonia
Randi for Miranda (but have to be careful which country you use this one is... and Miranda is kinda nice and doesn't need a nn, but I don't like the other nns I've seen for it)
Max for Maxine
Stevie for Stephanie is kind of a refreshing change from Steph
Chris for various appropriate names
Jo for Jolene, Joanna, etc.
Ronnie for Veronica or Ronalda
Alex for Alexandra or Alexandria
Mickey for Michelle
It won't work for all names, but does for some... Ironically enough, I'm otherwise more of a full names person with an aversion to most ---ie/y nns.
