I recently met a French girl named Frederique and I really liked how it was a feminine name but she still went by Fred for short.
What other names can you think of like this? I guess any girl with an easily-feminized-masculine name could go by the name's short forms. Do you like any of these traditonally male nicknames on girls?
Ones I can think of:
Roberta - Rob/Bob/Bobby
Thomasina - Thom/Tom
Alberta - Al/Bert

I like feminine names on boys more than masculine names on girls, actually.
I'm not big on masculine nicknames on girls, but I do like:
Toni for Antonella/ Antonia
Harry for Harriet
Andy for Andrea
Dani for Daniella/ Danika
These names are unisex, but I consider them feminine. I do think they sound great on boys though:
Lindsey
Quinn
Francis (Francis is very masculine to me, but Frances is what I think of first when I hear it)
Casey (this one is pretty evenly split between masculine and feminine for me actually)
I'm not big on masculine nicknames on girls, but I do like:
Toni for Antonella/ Antonia
Harry for Harriet
Andy for Andrea
Dani for Daniella/ Danika

Quinn is all boy to me... However, I admit I do tend to think of girls before boys on the others.

I'm the same. I like some feminine nicknames for boys- Abby and Ali come to mind. But I usually don't like masculine nicknames on girls.

I personally loooove Billie. Always been a favourite of mine. Not too fussed on the more formal name though I quite like Wilhelmina.

I was at school with sisters Roberta and Josephine: they went by Bert and Jody, neither of which I like at all for either gender.
I also knew a Charlene whom we called Charles. She didn't mind at all ... in fact, since she was Charlene Stephanie and had two older brothers, I imagine she would have been Charles Stephen if things had worked out differently. As it was, it seemed quite cute.
There must be gazillions of Alexandra, Alexa, Alexis etc girls who go by Alex; but I don't know any of them.
I do know two Danielle girls in their 20s who are known as Dani.

I've always liked feminine names on girls with unisex or masculine nn. ^_^ Like Winifred being called Fred. Charlotte being called Charlie. Samantha being called Sam. Alexandrine or Alexandra being called Alexei. Leona being called Leo. Etc.....

I prob'ly wouldn't address a Roberta as just Rob or Bob, but maybe as Robbi or Bobbi... I wouldn't be likely to reduce Thomasina to Tom or Tommy... Wouldn't shorten Alberta to Bert, but maybe Al or Ally...
However, some that are fun...

I think some nicknames, like Frankie and Billie are adorable. I knew a grown-up Ricki (Erica) and I thought that was pretty cool.
That said, I've met 2 different little girls named Gabe (Gabriella) and a Theo (Theodora after a grandmother) and I can't say I'm down with those.

No, I've never liked masculine nicknames on girls. I tend to like my girl's names to be overtly feminine, even the nicknames. The only time I can remember liking a masculine nickname on a girl was when Artemis nn Artie was brought up a while ago here on the boards. It's the only time I've been able to understand the appeal of it.

I generally dislike nicknames altogether (with a few notable excpetions), but I'm pretty neutral on traditionally male nicknames vs female nicknames on girls.

I tend to think of Jackie as more of a female nn that's sometimes used on guys than the other way around... not really into Jackie on boys.
I think of Nat more as a girlie nn sometimes used on boys too... If I just heard Nat, I'd prob'ly think Natalie or Natasha before I'd think Nathan... Though Nat is POSSIBLE on boys, Nate seems more common.

I've heard of a Samantha going by Sam, and an Alexandria who goes by Alex. I also knew an adult Michaelene (something like that) who went by Mike or Mikey.
Sam and Alex don't bother me much, but Mike on a girl kind of grosses me out. Masculine nicknames can't work on every girl, IMO, but some of them are interesting.

I don't really care for Rob/Bob/Bobby, Thom/Tom, Fred, or Bert as nicknames for girls, but there are some masculine nicknames that I like, and I could see Al growing on me as a girls' nickname. I love Leona or Leonia "Leo" for a girl.
