I don't like it. I apologize. Besides, I cannot imagine giving my son my maiden name as a first name, despite the fact that it is commonly used as a first name for boys - more commonly than
Dawson, and I like it better than
Dawson too. It just seems pretentious to me... using surnames as first names says (to me anyway) "my family is important [implied: rich], and we do think we're special, and we know you will too" Maybe I'm the only one who feels that way, and I'm sorry to dump it in your thread about a real child, but I've been ready to say that for a while and there it is.
You could call him Awesome. It sounds similar enough. D'awesome
From your list I like:
DrakeGideonJasperMagnus (Mags! &hearts)
RhettRonanTalon (or Talan)
Thane Zaneall better than
Dawson.
Still and all, if you name him
Dawson, I know perfectly well that it's not a *bad* name. =)
