Opinions/info on BA: Aftasie Vincenza Jean
An old childhood friend posted on FB recently that she had her baby and named her Aftasie Vincenza Jean. I was hoping she would explain something about the background of the name "Aftasie" on FB, but so far she hasn't.Has anyone heard of Aftasie as a name? Google seems to yield only an acronym from a charity organization in Afghanistan, which I wouldn't totally dismiss as a connection since I don't know too much about her life now, but I haven't seen anything that would make me assume that's it.I know she has a brother named Vincent, so maybe that's where Vincenza comes from.Could Aftasie be a combo of two names? (My friend's mom's name is Laurie and her dad's name is Victor... neither of those names seem to figure in the name, though! Neither do my friend's or her husband's first names-- Bonnie and Porter.)The only other info I can offer is that my friend's husband's family is "what scholars would call 'Amish - Mennonite,'" (his words), and that I think he has studied some Greek, probably ancient Greek as a theological interest.Any ideas or reactions?

Really fumbling in the dark here, but as nothing comes up anywhere for it as a name, and you say dad might be into Biblical Greek, I'm wondering if it might be a transliteration of αφθαρσια (aphtharsia) = 'incorruptibility'; googling it pops up several Biblical passages.

Thanks for that suggestion; it does make more sense than anything I've thought of!
It sounds close, and it does have a really interesting meaning. I will let you know if I do find out that that's where it comes from!:)

It's rather pretty and otherworldly. I like this combo a lot. If it is an invested name, it doesn't seem as silly as most others - you're right, it is evocative of the ancient world somehow. You should just ask her! say "oh your daughter's name is so beautiful, what does it mean?".

A few others on Facebook have asked about it, but my friend hasn't explained yet... She doesn't have regular Internet access. If she does reply to the questions I will let you all know what the answer is!:)

Aftasie does sound made up to me too. I don't see how Lori is in there, but you didn't say the other three grandparents' names, or anyone else they may want to honor.

No, I don't think I know any of the other grandparent's names, other than the maternal grandfather Victor....ETA: Trying to brainstorm at least my friend's other siblings:Carol, Matthew, Peter, Vincent, Nathan, Daniel and Hannah.
