Nausicaa
I've come across this name a few times, but until now I've totally overlooked it. However, I'm really starting to love it. What do you think of the name Nausicaa? How would you pronounce it? Right now I like nahf-si-kah. If you're up to it, can you think of any Nausicaa combos, in either the middle or first name spot?
Thanks!
Thanks!

I think it would be misspelled and mispronounced a lot, so I think it would be better suited as a middle name. I've tended to pronounce it NAH-sih-ka.
The meaning and its mythological roots appeal to me, but unfortunately, I think of the word "nausea." I think it would still make for a cool user name or middle name, though.
Combos:
Zoe Nausicaa - I really like these two together.
Lorelei Nausicaa
Elspeth Nausicaa
Violet Nausicaa
Violette Nausicaa
Valerie Nausicaa
Isabel / Isabelle / Isobel Nausicaa
Hope Nausicaa
Naomi Nausicaa - A fun, alliterative combo.
Willow Nausicaa
Judith Nausicaa
Silhouette Nausicaa - GPish, but I think it's pretty.
Lily Nausicaa
Verity Nausicaa
Ivy Nausicaa

naw-see-KAY-a in Latinised Greek. Gives a rather nauseating impression, unfortunately, since she was a wonderful character with great presence of mind.
It's nice, but it kinda looks like "nausea".
I always thought it was nah-sih-KAY-uh. Nausicaa's an odd-looking name. It looks like it ought to be some nautical term.

Nausea
I know it's na-oo-shi-ka in Japanese! (thanks, Hayao Miyazaki ;))- but I have no idea at all how you pronounce it in Greek, or English either. It is a cool-looking name though.
Which Miyazaki movie has a Nausicaa in it??
I really need to watch more Miyazaki. I think I'm just afraid I'll find something I like more than Howl's Moving Castle and then I won't know how to live my life any more.

I've never seen it before but I first thought it would be said naw-sik-uh and it reminds me of nausea so I really don't like it.
I like it too, it reminds me of the word "musical" and "nautical" at the same time, so I think of the sound of the ocean when I see it, and the dark, angry navy colour of a rough sea. But it kinda looks, at first glance, like it should be said in a way that evokes the word "nausea", which is really too bad.
I'd say it "NAW-sih-sah" or "naw-SEE-say" or "NAW-see-say", but I bet those are waaaayyyyyyyyyy off.

I think its resemblance to nausea is why I like the nahf-si-kah pronunciation so much. I get the same kind of "sound of the ocean" feeling, but I think of a kinder sea. That's one of the great things about this name. It's rough and smooth.
NAW-sih-sah kind of reminds me of Narcissa. What I wouldn't do to have that name become socially acceptable first name material. Nausicaa and Narcissa. Too close? =)
