How would you pronounce this?
An acquaintance recently named her baby girl Allyse and I cannot figure out if it's supposed to be pronounced like Elise (uh-leese) or Alice. The nickname, Ally, makes me lean towards Alice, but the spelling makes me think it's Elise . What do you think the pronunciation is? Has anyone come across this name before?

I would guess like Elise. I would be my inclination to call her that. Maybe instead of el LEESE, it is al LEESE. I don't think it is name on it's own but a creative spelling. And it is too creative if we don't know how to pronounce it!
Can you ask what the correct pronounciation is?

I'd say it "al-EEZE"Could be wrong, but that's how I'd say it. Like the name Al, plus "eez". I've never come across it, but it looks vaguely French to me.

Well I first thought it was Elise. I get though that the nn Ally makes you lean towards Alice. Oh how much simplier life would be if people spelled their childrens' names right.

I would assume Alice. I've never come across it before but there is a variant of Alice which is Alys. I think it's the Welsh form of Alice.

It's probably like Elise, but who knows.

Like Elise. If it were spelled Allyce I would think Alice, but my brain wants to say uh-leese with that s in there.

This is actually a name one of my friends used for her daughter who is about 8 now. She says it like Elise. She used it because she wanted to call her Ally (which she is 95% of the time). I'm still not sure why she couldn't have been Alexandra or something if her FN was never going to be used anyway...but that's a whole other thing. It's really unfortunate because the name Elise is so pretty. Some people.

There's a DIY vlog girl named Allyce King who pronounces her name like Elise. I would have no guess otherwise.... because until I actually just looked up a vlog by Allyce King I assumed she pronounced her name like Alice =/

I think it's Alice, though, like you, the spelling looks like Elise. One would wish people wouldn't do this.

I also wish people wouldn't do this - it makes for awkward mispronunciations and a lifetime of misspellings for the child.

First thing I said in my head was uh-lees

Looks more like "a-LIS" to me.

EstimationI would estimate that it's uh-LEES, but I could be wrong.
