Anneza is right, it's from the French term for a daisy, "marguerite".
A marguerite is a large and important-looking daisy! And the origin is Greek: pearl, pearly-white ... I think most people just use Daisy as a flower name, though I know a Desiree who is sometimes known as Daisy. But, in Little Women, Meg is known as Daisy to some of her silly, snobbish friends.
