I think it's completely usable. It's a mainstream name I would say. It's not weird or out there at all. I think it's unisex but I definitely prefer it for a boy. I have pretty neutral feelings about it. It's not bad, it's not great.

As for middle names, it's probably not a good idea to use another word name because it can get silly very easily. However, I have a soft spot for nature/word names for boys so I think it's doable (and it's what I'm drawn to at the moment).
