River
It has always been a guilty pleasure of mine, however I am starting to think I could use it! (I realise some people will want to shoot me!)So what is your opinion on the name River (ONLY for a boy)? Feel free to be completely honest! If you like it, do you have any middle name ideas? Thanks heaps in advance :)

I love for both boy and girl, though my favorite is for a boy. I think it's awesome and totally usable.

Personally, I can't imagine River on a boy. Perhaps I'm being too close-minded, but it's always been a girl's name to me. The shows I watch have probably influenced this -- River Tam from Firefly and River Song from Doctor Who immediately come to mind, and they're both ladies.

I can only see River on a boy because of River Phoenix. I like it, even if it DOES remind me of dying from a drug overdose.

Shoot you? Why? It's a perfectly fine name. Well, I think it is here in the US anyway. I think it seems a little bit hipsterish, but not hippie like Cedar or goofy/celebby like Lake. It's on par with Sage. I'd use River, if it were my favorite. I think of it as unisex, but I prefer it for boys too.

I've never really been a fan and now all I think about is the female character from dr who

I think it's completely usable. It's a mainstream name I would say. It's not weird or out there at all. I think it's unisex but I definitely prefer it for a boy. I have pretty neutral feelings about it. It's not bad, it's not great. As for middle names, it's probably not a good idea to use another word name because it can get silly very easily. However, I have a soft spot for nature/word names for boys so I think it's doable (and it's what I'm drawn to at the moment).
Some of my suggestions:River Forest
River Björn/Bjorn (river bear)
River Keir
River Saul
River Siôr/Sior (prn. shore)
River Roman
River Indigo
River Tennyson
River Archer
River Sebastian
River Lucas
River Julius/Julian
River Pierre

I really like River. I can't picture it on a girl, and the majority of the times I've heard it used is on boys - I've never actually seen a River.I don't quite know why I like it so much, but I do. It's never been on a GP list, always on a usable list!

I like it (I also like it for a girl... IMO it's a good unisex name). It's a nice nature name that's not too out-there for a boy. It is one you have to be kind of careful with the last name pair -- anything even semi-nature-y as a last name is going to sound REALLY hippie with River. Of course, if you like that, then go for it.
