Rhoda
I've been liking Rhoda lately, especially as an alternative to the popular Rose (Rhoda = Rose). It sounds strong and unyielding, while Rose seems more soft, delicate, and feminine. I like it better as a first name than Rose, which I prefer as a middle name. It is somewhat old-fashioned (look at the popularity chart), but I don't have any real trouble imagining it on a young person. However, I do think it works better with some personality types than others.

I like Rhoda. I agree about it sounding strong and unyielding yet soft and feminine. I wouldn't mind seeing it more often. It's rather neglected these days.
My grandmother's name!
I'm pretty sure her birth certificate says Rose, but she was always called Rhoda. I'm planning on honoring her, but I don't want to use her exact name (official or nickname) because it's just not really done in the Jewish religion, so I was thinking of using Rhodes as a mn.
But to answer your question, I like it, but I do have a hard time seeing it on a imagining person.
There's an old movie called "The Bad Seed" with a character named Rhoda. She's an beautiful little blond haired girl with long pigtail braids who kills people. Its a great cult classic! Anyway, that's all I can think of when I hear the name Rhoda.
Rhoda: "What would you give me for a basket full of hugs?"
Mother: "A basket full of kisses!"
You have to see it :)

"The Bad Seed" is camp at its finest.

I sure hope Netflix has it LOL Now I want to watch it again!
Some ladies where I used to work really loved and we turned everyone onto it. Then, we'd quiz each other like "What was Claude's last name?" and stuff like that. These were women between the ages of 18 to 55 playing this. Good times.

Daegle. :)
I know a little Rhoda about 10 years old. She is a very sweet and fun little girl. A small, delicate, brunette. She is half Italian and half Polish and her middle name is Declara. Her parents made it up when she was born because she gave one quick little cry like she just was declaring here I am and then she was quiet. She is the only Rhoda I ever met so that is my association with the name.
I like it, though you might have to endure some teasing from people who have seen the 1950s movie "The Bad Seed". If I remember right though, in that movie, Rhoda was short for Rhododendron (sp?). I can imagine it on either a brunette tomboy or a feisty little redhead.
I don't like it. It seems very dated to me, and I don't like the sound of it.
It's the name of the murderous little girl in The Bad Seed, which puts me off it a lot. But, it is kind of pretty, and a pleasant alternative to Rose.
