Dorothy
My brother told me that if he and his wife ever have another daughter, they're naming her Dorothy, NN Dottie. WDYT of it? Too old-fashioned, or ready for a revival?
Replies
I like Dorothy but I love Dottie more. I'd use Theodora or Dorothea with the nn Dottie if I could get an SO to agree to it.
Sally and Dottie is an adorable sibset.
Although, knowing they would give Dottie a full name makes me wish they'd given Sally a full name. And I know, we've had this debate on this board back when they were pregnant, and I actually am now in agreement that Sally can most definitely stand on its own, but Sarah "Sally" and Dorothy "Dottie" = an amazing sibset IMO.

I do find it very dated. I know 2 Dorothy's & the younger is nearly 60.
It could be ready for a revival. My first thought is Wizard of Oz, of course.
I don't like the nickname Dottie. I find it very dated & just not the most attractive sound. And Dottie is very A League of Their Own-not really a bad association.
As nicknames, I like Dorie/Dory and Dora. They feel old fashioned but closer to today's style. And Dolly could work on the right girl. I also like Dora on it's own.

I love Dorothy, and I think it deserves a comeback.
Aw, adorable. I've always liked it. My best friend's daughter was nearly Dorothy, but they decided that with Arthur as a brother, there was just too much th. :) Nice to see someone else considering using it - I can totally see it having a comeback.
I really like Dorothy and love the nicknames Dottie, Dory, and Dolly for it.
I would love to hear it on a little girl!

Love it! Dottie is adorable.
I'd like to see Dorothy make a comeback. It think it's cute with the nickname Dottie.
It's hard for me to imagine a Dorothy under the age of 60. However, I do like the Polish equivalent, Dorota or Dorotka.
Dorotka is the pet form of Dorota in Polish.
Definitely revival-worthy. I'd say it's right on schedule. I admire Dorothy but wouldn't use it due to knowing two unpleasant ones. But I love seeing others use it!
Dorothy is definitely ready for a revival. Dottie is cute. I also like Dori or Doro, unconvential but hey I like what I like.
I really like Dorothy, but I haven't made up my mind about Dottie. Definitely ready for a revival, I just don't know if I like it. But if your brother likes Dorothy nn Dottie, he should go for it. Dorothy is very pretty, and it has several nickname options.
Does your brother have any other children?

Yes.
He has a six month old daughter named Sally. I think Sally and Dottie make a very cute, retro sibset. They'd definitely be the only ones in their class. :)

Very cute sibset, I love it
The name Dorothy itself is not too old-fashioned, but the nickname Dottie is definitely too old-fashioned.
I would have suggested the nickname Dora, but it brings to mind Dora the Explorer! But it's totally fine if your brother and his wife are okay with that!
