I think it'd make a neat middle name, but I personally would hate the have it as my first name. It could be useful in spunking up a more common name eg.

I think it sounds equally masculine, and it really could go either way since it's a nature name. I like the combo Atticus Topaz, which randomly came to me one day, but as a name itself I'm not a huge fan of the sound of it.

I don't like it as a first name. I think it would make a better middle name. I'm not really a huge fan of gemstone names. Sometimes they can sound a bit tacky.

Nice, I've just been thinking about it lately and wanting to post the same thing. I think it's pretty great, actually - feminine, fun, spunky, unqiue. I'd definitely consider it as a middle name, just because I probably wouldn't have the nerve to use it as a first name! But I'm thinking that this one is not even worth attempting to run by my husband. I can hear the guffawing already!`
