Re: Nicknames as names
in reply to a message by Avis
Generally I prefer nicknames as nicknames. Occasionally there is a nickname that I like far better than any of its full names, but for me that's a reason not to use it (Theo is an example). Jessie is also one of those. I would use Jessica, Jessenia, or Jessamine, or maybe even Justine, because I feel like it should have a full name, but I don't like any of those as much as just Jessie. I love Annie as a nickname, but there are SO many possibilities for full names that one shouldn't have a problem finding one. There's no need to stick with the traditional Anne unless you love it. My pastor is Andrea "Annie." I am fond of Antigone and Andromeda with Annie as a nickname - it's a nice nickname for some awesome full names. I think if I were to use Annie as a nickname, it would be for Antigone or Anneliese. If you were using Carrie as a full name, I'd spell it differently - Kerry or Cary or even Keri. I don't like Kari/Cari because they could be pronounced car-ee rather than care-ee. Carrie really looks like it should be short for Caroline or something, and I don't like it as a given name.
