Re: Okay, wow...

I'm going to rather disagree with you here. In a way.First: Nobody would say that the parents don't have a right to name their children what they want. Pretty obviously, they named them what they wanted to and what they thought best, and everyone knows that very likely they would still prefer these names to whatever we choose. But everyone here has a right to an opinion on the names, and that's all anyone would be doing--stating an opinion. It's very common for people here to make a post about a name given to a real-life baby and ask for opinions. I've done it myself. Isn't that the point of a name opinions board? What's wrong with giving an opinion where the parents are very unlikely to see it anyway?Also...I think these names are very boring--nothing *inherently* wrong with them, but overuse and popularity makes them boring. I always feel impatient by people who use overly popular names, because *in my opinion* it's a bad idea to use a name that does nothing to distinguish a child and will some day date him or her. I think that's all the OP meant to say, and that's her opinion and mine and we have a right to it, and if we can't state it here on a names opinion board, where can we state it?Let's celebrate the fact that we are namenerds and we have ideas and sensibilities that the general public doesn't have, instead of decrying it.

I think the problem is in the OP's statement: If I had the opportunity and 9 months to think of names for triplets, I would do waayyy better than this I think. It basically implies that the parents of these children didn't think their names out at all and did a half-assed job of naming, which is ridiculous to say just because you don't like their choices.

^This.(m)I know it's probably an exaggeration of what the OP was thinking, but it sounded petty and nitpick-y to me.

But I'm not saying that... :-(
Everything is being read into far too much....

Perhaps I'm wrong, but I interpreted your words to mean, "I would avoid such popular names and would want to find something more offbeat and unusual" and I feel the same way. But the way it was worded, it could be construed the way Akua Topaz construed it, and so a misunderstanding resulted. Also, maybe some people feel that such an attitude is snobbish, and if they do, oh well, then I'm a snob when it comes to names, just as I am when it comes to Chef Boyardee, Bud Light beer, and reality TV. :-D

LOL, I see what you mean. I guess I forget that everyone here doesn't know me personally and that they can easily misinterpret what I'm saying if I'm not super clear. That was my mistake, I guess!
*edit*
I guess my statement was meant to say that they had a long time and could have done something spectacular, but they chose the beaten path.
Which I am not mad at them for, I was just saying that any of us here may have done something different...
