Dorothy
I have mixed feelings on Dorothy. I really WANT to like it. It's cheerful and carefree, and has charming nicknames like Dot and Dora but it's somehow... weak? So, an appeal for Dorothy combos. Perhaps it needs something a bit spunky or salacious? And what do you think of it spelled Dorothea?

I prefer Dorothea, but I do love the name!

Dorothy was brought down a bit for me by the cutesy, yet somehow wishy-washy character from The Wizard of Oz (No matter HOW much I loved the movie). Dorothea is nice, but a tad awkward, I think.

Aw, it's not weak at all. Any name that's survived over 500 years of usage has to be seriously robust. And it is very cheerful.Random combos:
Dorothy Gloria
Dorothy Verona
Dorothy Paloma
Dorothy Manon
Dorothy Ellen / Elin
Dorothy Francine
Dorothy Kinborough
Dorothy Jean

You are making me love Kinborough. Dorothy Kinborough is wonderful. (As is Dorothy Sibyl and Dorothy Ellen)

Yay, Dorothy! She's so undeservedly overlooked, even by me and I like her. I don't find her weak at all. She's fresh and bubbly and yet down to earth at the same time. I put her in the same category as Susan and Anne. I picture a young woman in the time of the English civil war, the 1600's. I love most of the usual nns like Dot / Dottie, Dora / Dorie / Dory, Doro, Dodie, Dee.Dorothy is nice as a nn for Dorothea, which is pronounced, "do-ro-THEE-uh," by th way. But I wouldn't ever use Dorothea as an alternate spelling of Dorothy. Dorothy can stand on her own quite well, of course. I just wanted to point out that the two names aren't pronounced the same way.Dorothy Kay
Dorothy Susan
Dorothy Alice / Alix
Dorothy Wren
Dorothy Mavis
Dorothy Patricia
Dorothy Clara
Dorothy Pearl
Dorothy Carys
Dorothy Nolwenn
Dorothy Ailsa
Dorothy Glynis
Dorothy Fiona
