Ulysses
What do you think of this name? I met a little boy who had this name recently. He went by Ulie, though it's cute on a toddler, maybe that nickname won't age well. But still I like that it's a unique name that people have heard of before.
According to a name website, 18th President of the United States, Ulysses S. Grant, went by this name. At birth, his name was Hiram Ulysses Grant (Ulysses being chosen in homage to the mythological hero because Ulysses is the Latinized version of Odysseus) and the prospect of entering West Point Military Academy with the initials "HUG" embarrassed him, he began using the name Ulysses H. Grant until he discovered that he was erroneously enrolled as Ulysses Simpson Grant. He adopted this name and was from that point forward known as U.S. or "Uncle Sam" Grant. Interesting name history.
But thoughts on the name in general? Possible nicknames? Possible combos? Would you ever consider giving it to a child? I feel like this one could easily become a favorite of mine.

I really love this name. I know of one guy named Ulysses, at my workplace. He is once in a while called Ulie, but mostly Ulysses.
The fact that I know of one makes me think it's perfectly usable. Other than Ulie, another nickname could be Lys, but that's kind of effeminate. I would want to call a Ulysses by the full name. Yes, I'd consider giving it to a child, if I had three more boys, because I like Cassius and Evander more, and I'd use them first. But after that, I'd definitely consider Ulysses.

Ulie is a cute nickname for a little boy named Ulysses.
I'd like to meet a little boy named Ulysses, but it's not one I like enough to use myself. It's got a nice ring to it, and lots of history behind it, so it has those two things going for it. Unfortunately, it possibly means "to hate", but that's not for certain.
Combos;
Ulysses James
Ulysses Henry
Ulysses Graham

Ulysses Beau
Ulysses Anton

Ulysses Benjamin
Ulysses Oliver
Ulysses Owen
Ulysses Rowan
Ulysses Jonathan
Ulysses John
Ulysses Nathaniel
Ulysses Palmer
Ulysses Charles
Ulysses Andrew
Ulysses Donovan
Ulysses Dalton

I think Ulysses could be usable, I'm leaning more towards a really awesomely quirky middle name that a kid could go by if it really really fit.
