Martha and Walt
After seeing Martha in zachlyn's thread, I'm starting to think that it's awfully cute. Any opinions? And, today, for the first time ever, I read one of Walt Whitman's poems and am totally blown away. Which makes me think of Walt / Walter in a name like sense, of course. Also, opinions? Do you prefer Walton for nn Walt, or is it too...you know, The Waltons-y?

Thank you all for answering! I'm thrilled to see that so many people like Martha and Walt / Walter.

I don't really like either one of them. They seem dowdy and old-fashioned.

I like Martha and love Marta (don't pronounce them the same). And I dislike Walt and all other longer forms of it (I only like a couple W male names).

Yuck! I really dislike both Walt and Martha. Very old people-ish, not cute for me at all.

They make me think of 2 old people sitting on rocking chairs out on the porch knitting and whittling... maybe a Norman Rockwell drawing sort of image... They would seem a little odd on a young person today, though not necessarily horrid or anything. I think Walton should be left as a surname. Walter's still old man-ish, but fits the fn position better.

I love Martha. I do kinda of like Walt but not really Walter or Walton. Martha and Walt together reminds me of Wal-Mart. Maybe because I have two teddies that came from Wal-Mart called Wally and Martha.

Aww, they make a great pair. I actually prefer just Walt to either Walter or Walton - Walter is nicer than Walton, but its ending's a bit matchy with Martha.

I never thought Martha was cute, pretty, or fresh. It's old, gray, and quite dowdy, IMO. All I can think of is Martha Washington.I don't care for Walter either, but it's not as bad as Martha.

I really like the name Martha. It was on my list but hubby vetoed it :( I'm not keen on Walter but after thinking awhile about Walt I find it kind of neat.

Martha & Walt are the sweet friendly old retired couple down the block, not the cute young siblings in the stroller :)I actually see potential for these as young siblings.
Martha could be cute on a little girl. I see it similar in style to Matilda-old fashioned & kind of dowdy but ready for a comeback. If you go with Martha, you have to go with Walter. Walton sounds on the whole trying to find new surname type names trend. Walter sounds intellectual but friendly.

I like Martha. It's very sweet and good housekeeper-y.I really like Walter, but am not a huge fan of Walt. It's alright, I can see it being an occasional nickname, but not something to always call a Walter. I don't really like Walton, it doesn't sound as nice. I do like the Waltons, though, so that connection doesn't bother me!I mostly really loved seeing "Martha and Walt." Aww, how awesome would that be to meet siblings with those names?!
