Roland
What do you all think about Roland? I've noticed it doesn't get much love here on the boards. It's not particularly a favorite of mine, but it is on my PNL. I think it's quite handsome, and it came to my attention after reading the Dark Tower by Stephen King. So, do you like it? Why or why not?Do you think the name Roland is usable?Do you have any combos you want to share?Does Roland have any positive or negative associations for you? What do you think of these combos?Roland Henry
Roland Charles
Roland Wilfred
Roland Xavier
Roland William Alasdair Roland
Alexander Roland
Casper Roland
Evander Roland
Leander Roland

I like it. It's really cool!I think it would make a fresh choice today.I can't say i associate it with anything, apart from, or some reason, Mice.I like those combos, esp. Roland Xavier & Casper Roland. I mean, how many kids can claim their middle initial is X?

I neither love it nor hate it. I do have a friend named Rolande who's a woman.
It's nms, but I'd appreciate the change from Liam, Jacob, Ethan or Aidan on someone else's kid.Best of your combos:Roland Charles
Roland Wilfred (almost works if you're ok w/ 2 d endings)
Roland Xavier
Roland WilliamAlasdair RolandAlexander's nice, but I think it would sound better as Roland Alexander flow-wise.The other names I'm just not fond of in the first place.

I like it. It's definitely a name I'd like to see more often. It's usable if you ask me.Roland Henry - Nice.
Roland Charles - I used to not care for Charles, but I think it's decent these days.
Roland Wilfred - Wilfred is a little too stuffy for me.
Roland Xavier - I love this combo.
Roland William - Nice flow. William is a nice name. It's common, but still a nice name.Alasdair Roland - I really like Alasdair, but I'd switch the order of the combo because the R's at the end of Alasdair and the beginning of Roland run together. This also happens with the other combos you've listed before. How about Roland Alasdair?
Alexander Roland - See above. Roland Alexander would be a great combo.
Casper Roland - I've never been all that fond of Casper to be honest. I don't really care for the sound of it. Oddly enough, I like Castor though. How about Roland Castor?
Evander Roland - I really like Evander. How about Roland Evander?
Leander Roland - Again, I'd reverse the order here, and make it Roland Leander, which I think makes for a nice combo.

I do like it, but only for fun because it's really close to my last name. It's such a gallant, regal name. I also like the association to Song of Roland-- definitely a positive. And of course it's usable... why wouldn't it be? It's a perfectly normal, not unheard of or unseen name.My only combo with it is Roland Carolus, which I adore.Of your combos, I like pretty much all the top ones. They all sort of stick with the image I get from it. Of the bottom list, I LOVE Alasdair Roland. It's perfect! The rest are fine enough, too.

I perceive it as very gallant and regal as well. It seems very kingly to me. I have no idea why it wouldn't be usable. Haha. I was trying to see if anyone else thought it might be unusable for some reason. :)I think Alasdair Roland is perfect too. I love the flow of it.Thanks for your comments!

I don't mind it at all, and I like it better than plenty of more popular names. I love the Song of Roland, and that is always in my mind when I hear it. My other association is with a perfectly pleasant bloke, in his middle to late 20s I'd say, whose name (fn + ln) is Roland Arnold. I find that lacking in harmony.

Roland Arnold is very much lacking in harmony. Thanks for your comments. :)

It is the name of my cousin's cat so I think of him :)I really like it as a pet's name but do think it has a distinguished older man feel to it. (I have seen Rollin too and I hate that)I think it is usable. It falls in a class with Simon, Percy, Alistair, Charles. I like your combos with Roland as a first name better than as a middle name.

I don't like Rollin either. I agree. It does have a similar feel to Simon, Percy, Charles, etc. Do you think it's a pretentious name? I like Roland as a first name better too. :)

I think the group as a whole is kind of pretentious but Roland is the fun, everybody's friend, more down to earth one of the group.

I like Roland; for me it brings to mind the "strong & silent" type.I think it is a very usable name & I love that it's not trendy right now (at least not where I live).I like all of your combos w/ Roland as the first name.
I would add:
Roland Wyatt
Roland Cedric
Roland Anthony
Roland Jethro
Roland Avery
Roland Edgar
Roland Mitchell
Roland Klaus
Roland Alexander
Roland NigelThe only combo w/ Roland as a middle name that I'm not fond of is Alexander Roland but thats simply because I prefer Alexander as a middle name.
I would add:
Tristram Roland
Sirius Roland
Marshall Roland
Kevin Roland
Jasper Roland
Hugo Roland
Garrett Roland
Edward Roland
Cedric Roland

I like Roland! It's one of the names I wish was used more often. I think it's completely useable.
I like Roland William, Alasdair Roland, and Evander Roland. And I don't like Henry, but I think I like Roland Henry a little...
Also Roland Arthur, Roland Morgan, Roland Francis, Roland Santiago, Roland Charlemagne, Roland Wilhelm, Roland Lysander.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Song_of_Roland is what I think of when I hear "Roland".

I wish it was used more often as well! I think it's an under appreciated name.Thanks. I think my favorite combo that I came up with is Alasdair Roland. It just has a ring to it...Roland Arthur is amazing. A really great combo. :) I also really like Roland Wilhelm and Roland Lysander. I've never heard of The Song of Roland before. Thanks for the link. When I hear Roland, I also think of the poem "Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came."
