I think it's much better as a nickname for Charlotte or Charlize / Charlise.

I really love the name Charlie, but for a boy. I find it too masculine for a girl. If people must insist on using it for a girl, then Charli is the only spelling I could tolerate. I think Charlie for a girl is better suited as a nn for Charlotte.

I think Charlie is a cute nn for either a boy or a girl, but only as a nn. Personally, I prefer Charlotte over Charleine by a long shot. What about Charlize (yes, as in the actress) its definitely more casual than Charlotte but has more weight than Charlie (for me at least)?

My bf's brother and his wife just had a baby in June and they named her Charlotte- specifically so they could use the nn Charlie.

I think it's cute as a nn for a girl, but not as a formal name. But the only feminine Charli- type name I like is Charlotte, and it's pronounced with an Sh- sound and not a Ch- sound like Charlie, so I probably wouldn't even use it as a nn for that. Theoretically. :b I do love Charlie for a boy, though, but only as a nn for Charles.

ETA: My cousin had a friend when she was younger (they are both 20 years old now) named Charlee. I think her mn was Ann. I thought it was cute on her, just not personally something I would use.

I because I prefer Charlotte I'd say that it should be used as a nickname. I don't really like it as a full name for a boy either.

I like Charlie for a girl although I think it should be used as a nn incase "Charlie" doesn't like it when she's older. And stick with the spelling Charlie =)

I would spell it Charlie or Charley (the only really intelligent-looking spellings to me), and I would use it as a nickname for Charlaine. Charlotte has so many prettier nicknames that I wouldn't ever use Charlie as a short form for it.

Charlie on its own isn't at all strong enough, IMO. I love masculine nicknames for girls (Billie, Bobbie, Jimmie, Johnnie, Charlie, Sid, Mack), but I don't like them unless they've got a feminine full name to fall back on.

It's a million times worse as a full name, IMO. It's mildly tolerable as a nickname for Charlotte. All spellings but Charlie are really, really bad.
