Babes in Toyland
in reply to a message by Siân
First image that comes to mind is the dodgy character in "Babes in Toyland". Barnaby was not a pleasant character... and children are more likely to see a Christmas special for kids to form an oppinion on a name than a more grown-up movie.
nn Barney
wouldn't make my list by a mile... just nms.

I think of Babes in Toyland too. One of my favorite movies!

Well I doubt many children are watching Babes in Toyland anymore, but if it makes you feel any better that's what I used to think of too. Also, maybe I should have said what do you think of it in theory and not on an actual child somewhere. I'm mostly thinking of using it for a character, not a real child.

I don't like it in theory either... and it sounds too cartoon characterish. For a character, it could work though. As for the movie, it frequently finds its way into the long list of yearly Xmas specials along with "Rudolph", "Charlie Brown's Christmas" (or whatever it's called), "Sound of Music" (still not sure why it's a Xmas special), "Frosty", "It's a Wonderful Life", etc. as an old standard.

And "Hello Dolly!" One of the two clerks who go out on the town is named Barnaby. That's where I first fell in love with the name. Cornelius too. (Come to think of it, Barnaby Cornelius would make a neat combo.)
