Nikola?
I love Nicholas, but prefer the spelling Nikolas. Anyway, it got me to thinking about Nikola. Do you think it would work on a boy in the U.S. or would people always think it is a girl's name? Also, do you like it?

Nikola is nice for a boy. I much prefer it for a boy than a girl.

I could see people thinking that Nicola was a girl's name but Nikola seems close enough to the more known Nikolai to be seen as a boy's name. Plus, there is the inventor Nikola Tesla who would beef up Nikola's reputation as a bonafide male name.

sudden images of kids replacing the N w/ an Rand turning it into cough candy commercials.

I guess it depends on how multicultural your part of the US is. I instantly think of Nikola Tesla, who would be a pretty cool namesake.

I'd think Nikola was probably a boy (Nicola would be a girl though). I don't dislike Nikola, but I prefer Nikolai!

on a boy, it feels like the s is missingcould just be habbit, but if one's going for all 3 syls, it feels like there should be an s and Nicola's pretty and girly... not masc.

All masculine to me. I like the nickname Niko but don't like Nicholas so Nikolas and Nikola seem like good options! Also: Nikola Tesla, which I think is a plus.

Lol, Nikola Tesla is actually the association that put me onto liking it. :)

It's all boy to me, but then I'm from Croatia, so...
Not a bad name, but I'm tired of it and prefer Nikolai or Nikita.

Nikola is strictly all masculine to me, which is why i've always cringed when hearing it on a girl. Silly people think that it's 'feminine' sounding when in actual fact it isn't. There are feminine versions of it and I guess non-name nerds have no clue how names work. I say go for it :) No doubt some people will think of it as 'girly' but what would they know! I'm not a huge fan of it, but I see the appeal. It's strong and slightly delicate at the same time, which I think adds to it's appeal.

It's more a cultural thing if you click on the name... in some cultures, it's masc. and in some, it IS fem... In western culture, it does sound quite fem. That's just the way it is. On a boy, it just feels like the s is missing for some westerners.

I go to school with a Nikola! He's from Serbia. No one has trouble with his name; then again, the vast majority of students at my school are cultured and intelligent.
