Odd Nickname sighting (bit of a stretch)
I've just returned from a service trip to Guatemala and one of the girls on the trip was named Lauren. We had a problem at the airport when the name on her plane ticket didn't match the name on her passport. Her real name? Florence. Florence is her first name, but Lauren is not her middle name. It's supposed to be a nickname for Florence. I mean, the "Lauren" sound is in the middle of the name Florence, but still, a bit weird. It might be a bit more acceptable if it were spelled "Loren" like in Florence, but it's not. It's Lauren.

I do think Loren would have been a better choice, but Florence isn't exactly a popular name for a girl at the moment. She probably dislikes her name and wanted to choose a better nickname than "Flo".

Huh. Loren would work, but yeah, lauren is a bit of a stretch. I know someone who is named Florentine, and her daighter's official name is Lorna, but she is always called Loren. I've always thought Loren was an odd nn for Lorna, but maybe it's because it's in her mom's name?

That's upsetting -- Florence has so much more character than Lauren! If only she went by Flossie...
