Another Cosima celebrity BA
Director Sofia Carmina Coppola and Phoenix frontman Thomas Mars welcomed a second baby girl. Daughter Cosima was born in New York City this month and joins big sister Romy Croquet, 3½.
-Romy was named in honour of Sofia's brother Roman. I bet Cosima is also honoring in some way.
-Thomas's real last name is not Mars, it's Croquet
I think this has cemented my forecasts of Cosima becoming popular in the US and UK after Claudia Schiffer used it last month.
What are your thoughts on Cosima in general and do you see it making it big?

I'm more squeeing that Sofia Coppola had another baby. She was the cutest little thing in The Outsiders and Rumble Fish.
As a Coppola expert, I don't recall Cosima being honoring, although it fits the rest of the family names. She was named after her grandfather Carmine though. I wonder why she didn't name her daughter after her brother that died, Gian-Carlo...maybe because his wife named their daughter Gian-Carla. Hm...Where did Cosima come from? I'll look around.
The Coppola's have awesome names.

I love both names, but I get a different vibe from each of them.
Cosimo is a funky, retro-chic, artsy kind of name. Cosima, on the other hand, gives me the image of a sophisticated, cool goddess.
I pronounce them differently. Perhaps that's the difference. I should pronounce them more alike, I know. Anyway, for what it's worth I pronounce Cosimo as "COZ-i-mo" whereas Cosima is "CO-see-muh."

My exact sentiments
Although it is a better name than a lot of others out there.

The only Cosima that I had ever heard of in real life was Claus and Sunny von Bulow's dd. I associated it with the ultra-rich and / or Europeans.
I'd love for Cosima to become more widely used here in teh U.S. I find it gorgeous to say and to hear. I've worried in the past that people would mispronounce it as "co-SEE-muh." But if it does get more popular then that will become less of a factor. I odn't know about it becoming "big." Just becoming better known is all that I ask for.

I have to say I'm totally surprised by the fact that Americans seem not to have ever heard Cosima (going by comments made when Claudia Schiffer's daughter was born and now with this BA). The name's certainly not common, but I'd hardly consider it obscure (especially considering the large Italian emigration to the US). And the fact that Kuzma and Damjan (Cosmas/ Cosimo and Damian) are well known saints.
I'm glad it's getting some exposure:-)

I had heard of the name Cosima since childhood, of course. I just hadn't heard it on a real person until Cosima von Bulow.
But yes, I imagine for many in the U.S. they are hearing it for the first time. Pop culture pushes names like Kaylee and Neveah while ignoring gems like Cosima. Sad.
Ah well, Ms Copola and her dh are doing their part to spread the good names around. :-)
