I was just thinking about Muirne / Myrna the other day. :-) I love the retro vibe I get from Myrna. Ms Loy was the best embassadress for the name possible. Muirne has more of a timeless feeling. I prefer it to Myrna, but both are terrific.

* I read a(n) (auto?)biography of Myrna Loy. There were pictures of her as a young woman dancing outdoors in the 19teens or 1920's a la Isidora Duncan.

Myrna reminds me of Lorna in that I can see a certain romance to the name but overall it strikes me as dowdy.

I like it. I like the similar Myra too, but it's got such negative associations here that Myrna would be much more usable. Myrna Violet is very sweet.

I def. prefer Myrna.

I've got two beautiful Myrna friends, so that's my preferred version. That said, I prefer most other forms of Mary, including Moira. That rather flat vowel - yr! - doesn't sound as good as I'd like.

One thing I dislike ... I find it a little hard to say, somehow -- almost like I want to open my mouth wider but can't pronounce it without keeping my lips close together. (Does that make sense?)

Myrna is a lovely name! Muirne is such an interesting spelling, and it would pair perfectly with Gwendolyn: Muirne Gwendolyn. It looks like something right out of King Arthur! And Myrna...I can see it with Delphine, but it would be striking with a V name...Violet or Vivienne, especially. I know these aren't on your list, but what about Myrna Irene or Muirne Niamh (pronounced "Neeve")?
