Assuming you are using the English pronunciation, I simply despise it. The ag- sound is too similar to hag. Plus, I had a great aunt named Agnes who went by Ag, and her personality left alot to be desired! For me, I'm afraid Agnes will always be a short, cranky old woman to avoid.
