Elmo
I used the Random Name Generator and got Elmo. It got me thinking about whether this name is at all usable since Sesame Street. It's a Saint name afterall. So WDYT? Cute or ridiculous?

Do NOT name your kid this. When he gets older, he'll be made fun of terribly for having the same name as a red little puppet.

I reminds me so much of St. Elmo's fire

Having worked with a guy around my age named Grover, I could see an Elmo out there. Elmo is one of my GPs. I think is geek chic. :-)

Ridiculous. I started to giggle when I saw your post.

I know of oneHe would be about three now and is the son of my cousin's friend. In theory, its cute and it should be usable seeing as it has a cool history and all but in practice it always seemed kind of forced and goofy. Whenever I hear my cousin talk of this kid, I think of how ridiculous it sounds. It would make a cool mn though.

Absolutely, totally, and utterly..stupid. Sorry. Hate it.

Unusable.A younger generation would automatically associate it with that red puppet who likes to be tickled. It's like naming your kid Barney at the height of that particular show's popularity; it's a nice enough name, but it just doesn't work.I must tell you that I'm an American, so it might be perceived differently in another country. I don't know everything. :)

Sadly, I have to agree -- unless you far, far away from American children.

I love it!I named my parrot Elmo. He loves it, too, it was the first thing he ever said :) We call him Elmie and Elmchen as nicknames.I liked it for several reasons. Its meaning ("helmet", which makes me think of protection and "beloved") and it was easy to say so he could learn it easily. I also love Elmo from Sesame Street and his Elmo song :P Yeah and I liked how it was the name of a saint and had some classic background.I think it's usable on a child, people would just have to get used to it a bit. It's not that far from Enzo which is quite common in some countries.

I like it also Elmer

I think it's cute. I know someone who loved the name and lobbied for his son to be called Elmo. His partner wouldn't accept it though so he got Elmo as a second name - Daragh Elmo.

Daragh Elmo is terrific.I think it's cute too, and usable - but it's kind of too cute. I can't imagine calling my son Elmo.

I would say geeky cool-cute. I like it :)

unfortunately it really does have too strong a connection with Sesame Street. I do think though it would be cute otherwise. Its a shame really that its not usable.

Sesame Street kinda made it unusable at least to those who know of the very popular program. I *heart* Sesame Street but whenever I hear/see the name Elmo, it conjures up images of a. the lovable red monster and b. the movie St. Elmo's Fire. It would be a totally awesome name for a little boy if "a" didn't exsit.

Ignore.

Aww. That'd be awesome if this was usable. But I think Sesame Street is just way to overpowering of an association. Bummer too, because it is just the kind of name I like (along with Milo, Niko, Theo, Caio...).
