I like Lola. I could never use it, but I appreciate it; it has a pretty, wispy quality that makes me alternately think of someone with a really strong personality or someone who's happily enigmatic.
Tess sounds too simple and insubstantial to me. It's sweet but feels like it's missing something.
I like both these names better as nns for something longer: Dolores, Charlotte, Lorelei, or even Gwendolen for Lola, and Therese, Tempest, or Theresa for Tess.
