Lola and Tess
Replies
Should be Tessa - sorry!
I like the sound and look of Lola, but really dislike the meaning. Tess I love, but could never use as my DH is Lebanese and in Arabic there is a word which sounds the same, but means goat!
I like Lola. I could never use it, but I appreciate it; it has a pretty, wispy quality that makes me alternately think of someone with a really strong personality or someone who's happily enigmatic.
Tess sounds too simple and insubstantial to me. It's sweet but feels like it's missing something.
I like both these names better as nns for something longer: Dolores, Charlotte, Lorelei, or even Gwendolen for Lola, and Therese, Tempest, or Theresa for Tess.

I dislike Lola, but that's mostly due to an association.
I love Tess! It's nice as a given name or nickname, but I actually prefer it as a given name.
