Sadly, both Muriels I have known had the nick-name Mu-Mu. Which sounds exactly like Moo-Moo. I would hate that so much! But they never objected, that I know of.

Mur, Muri, Miur, El, Riel, Uri. I'd probably use Muri.

Miri, Mira, Mura, Muri / Murie, Urie, Ria, Rielle, Mell, Mellie. Miri is my personal fave.

I once had a classmate with this name (though she spelled it Murielle), and I always called her Mur. I guess this could be passable in America as well. :) Other nicknames I can think of are Muri and Mury, though the former might remind one too much of Suri Cruise.
