Albert / Alby
My grandfather's brother passed away from a tragic accident in his teens. His siblings got to grow up, get married, have children, etc and he did not. He was a likeable man, a worthy namesake.
What do you think of a little Albert in the 21st century? Would Alby be substantial on his own?
Albert Gabriel / Alby Gabriel
Albert Seth / Alby Seth
Albert William / Alby William (William is my grandfather's middle name)

Alby is dreadful for any child old enough to walk. But Albert is lovely and overdue for a comeback. Albert William has such edgy retro style!
I adore Albert, and I'd use it in a heartbeat.
I adore adore adore Alby. So so much! For years I completely nixed it from my lists though because I don't think it can standalone and I wasn't such a fan of Albert. I've decided recently however that I have come around to Albert. Its charming and spunky and ready for a comeback IMO.
Albert Gabriel followed by Albert William are my favourite combos.

I think Albert would make an excellent name, it's recognisable and he would rarely meet another his own age. It's a nice twist on the popular Robert, plus you could tell him all about his namesake.
I'm from the UK where names like Alfie and Charlie and Archie are used on their own all the time, and are extremely popular. However I do like there for there to be a full name, so it ages more gracefully and gives him more options. For example he could choose that although you call him Alby, his friends might call him Al or Bert.
