It's in my family tree several times as a full name, and it's grown on me too. I prefer it to Elizabeth and most of the other nns for Elizabeth, and in fact the only con I can think of is that people would probably assume it was short for Elizabeth. The family combos are Eliza Rosetta, Eliza Amelia, Eliza Jane and Eliza Florence. I also like Eliza Lucy and Eliza Susanna.

I am liking Eliza Florence more and more.Sadly, it's in my family tree too, but only once and the combo is Eliza Elizabeth. How so very sad.

I generally don't care for the long 'i' sound in names. The only exception for me is Caroline. And also, Eliza is strictly a nick to me for Elizabeth. Finally, there's something about Eliza that seems so unsophisticated yet snooty at the same time. I much prefer the softer sounding Elisa.Overall, Eliza is pretty fresh and ripe for renewal.Combos:Eliza Catherine
Eliza Charlotte
Eliza Claire
Eliza Cordelia
Eliza Corinne
Eliza Daphne
Eliza Frances
Eliza Jane
Eliza Joy
Eliza Juliet
Eliza Katherine
Eliza Madeleine
Eliza Mae
Eliza Mary
Eliza Penelope
Eliza Rosemary

I think it's really cute. There is an Eliza in my son's kindergarten class and she's made me like the name a lot.

I like it as a nickname for Elizabeth, but not on its own.

I prefer Elisa, and I like it pronounced Eh-lee-sa rather than Eh-lay-za.

I was pronouncing it eh-LYE-zah.
I've never heard it pronounced any different, at least not here in the Southeast US. Hmmmm....

-is to lazy to sign in-I love Eliza, it's unfortunately unusable for me because it was the main character's name in a weird 90's cartoon.

I like it. It has a very retro feel to it, it's spunky, yet classy. Very nice!

Pro: the freshest current version of Elizabeth
Con: Doolittle, I suppose!
Turn of the 20th century names work well:
Eliza Harriet
Eliza Olive
Eliza Muriel
Eliza Florence, even.
