Magdalene is my favorite. I plan to use Madeleine to honor my great-grandmother, who was named Maria Magdalena.
If your daughter doesn't want to be called Maggie, she can gently correct friends and relatives. And until she's old enough, she can gently correct them with something like, "She likes to be called Magda, actually." For instance, my name is Natalie and I dislike being called Nat. I just tell people I prefer to go by my full name.
Saint names are the best and Mary Magdalene is a good alternative. I love the name Mary.

If I didn't have a niece and two sisters-in-law with the name
I might use it. Mind you, only one goes by the name Mary (the other two use their middle names - family tradition) but it would still be odd. :-(
