Magdalene, Katarina or Mariana
I'm currently trying to decide between these three and can't. Love some feedback.Magdalene - I love, love the name and especially the nn Magda. My worries are that people would try and call her Maggie (I mentioned it to my cousin-in-law and her first response was "And you can call her Maggie!) Blah. I also love Mary Magdalene and there are some pretty cool saints with the name.Katarina: It's a form of my favorite name of all time, Katherine. I also like it because it's a nod to our heritage (there are a few Katharinas in both trees.) Worry is that people would pronounce it wrongly - kat instead of kaht.Mariana: It would honor a dear friend of ours and one of my husband's sisters (who is very much worth honoring) Problems including honoring one sibling out of a total of 9, and again people mispronouncing it. (We're pronouncing it mahr-ree-ahna)Thanks!

I would vote for Katarina, but I pronounce it Kat-uh-rina. Magdalene has always sounded to messy and akward to me. I like Maddelena though. Mariana is pretty too and I pronounce it the same way you do.

Magdalene is lovely, easy to spell and pronounce, but a little bit more interesting too. I don't especially like the nickname Magda, but I'm sure your family would get used to calling her that instead of Maggie if you called her it all the time.Katarina is not really my type of name. I think you would often find that people would pronounce it with the "kat" beginning, so it might not be the best choice.Mariana is pretty, and it sounds like the best one in terms of honouring your family and friends.

I love all of them, even I like Magdalena better than Magdalene. Don't worry, most people I know pronounce Mariana your way, which I think is beautiful.

Magdalene is my favorite. I plan to use Madeleine to honor my great-grandmother, who was named Maria Magdalena. If your daughter doesn't want to be called Maggie, she can gently correct friends and relatives. And until she's old enough, she can gently correct them with something like, "She likes to be called Magda, actually." For instance, my name is Natalie and I dislike being called Nat. I just tell people I prefer to go by my full name.Saint names are the best and Mary Magdalene is a good alternative. I love the name Mary.

If I didn't have a niece and two sisters-in-law with the nameI might use it. Mind you, only one goes by the name Mary (the other two use their middle names - family tradition) but it would still be odd. :-(

Mary is a great name. You could use Miriam maybe?
