Ruth
The post below started me thinking about Ruth. I've always liked the name - I've known some very cool women by it - but have never thought of using it. Now I have. Wdyt? Middle name ideas?

I am coming around on Ruth. It was my grandma's middle name (actually a family surname that I think her parents probably used because it was also popular at the time). I don't think it's one I'd ever use, but I enjoy meeting girls and young women named Ruth. (Although I met a 12-year-old Ruth who, unprompted, said she hated her name.)
Ruth is one of those names that seems like it can only belong to interesting women. I picture an intelligent, beautiful, down-to-earth brunette who cares passionately about some issue(s).

It's a good name. Little used in my (French-speaking) area, due to the "th" ending, really hard for French-speakers. Indeed, I worked with a French-speaking Ruth, who deplored her name, as it was always pronounced "Root".
I think it is beautiful in both sound and meaning. It is also a name with a lot of dignity. It doesn't sound too flowery.

I knew a very cool woman named LaVerne, but I still hate LaVerne.
I don't like Ruth at all. It needs a long middle name.

Ruth has something about it
That I really like. It's short, it has a long history of usage, the sound is very harsh (and I like that type of name - Vera and Maude are other favorites) and it's been used for in some of my favorite lit. It's not for everyone, but it's a very cool - and in my opinion - powerful name.
Ruth Veronica? Veronica Ruth?

Ruth Veronica? Veronica Ruth?
Ruth Veronica flows very well, as does Veronica Ruth. I have a certain rule that a one syllable first name should have at least a three syllable middle name, so I would concentrate on long middle names.
