I love that it is never seen, I love the -ette ending paired with the more sever "Bern-" beginning. love the homey-frumpiness of it. It makes me think of gigham and pies and tree-shaded dirt roads and clapboard houses. love the possibility of the boyish "Bernie" or "Birdie" as a nickname (I knew a Bernadette-called-Birdie).

I hate it out of principle because it's based on the name Bernard, which was my abusive father's name. Darn it! My familly is so anti-anything-related-to-Bernard that it's almost ridiculous.
