I love it, and would love to use it. My partner loves it too. I knew an unbelievably cute little kid named Magnus, he went by Maggie...loved it!

I don't like it at all. To me it's dated (I'm Swedish) and I've never met a Magnus under 35 years old. My parents have friends named Magnus and it's also my principals husbands name (he works at the school too)

I had considered this for my daughter had she been a boy. It was probably going to be Magnus or Maxwell, nn Max. I decided against it because 1. It sounds a little ridiculous with my last name, and 2. At the time, it seemed almost like it was trying too hard to be different compared to boy's names being used in my area. What you said about the name being too "heavy" more articulatly expresses the concerns I had. I was looking for something different but not too out-there, like about 90% of all expectant parents : /

Magnus is fantastic and I think it'd be adorable on a little boy.

It's alright, would make a nice mn.

I've always enjoyed it, and I don't find it heavy at all, just pleasantly Scottish and Scandinavian.

I agree about the heavy part. I really can't see this name on a kid.

I really like it. It doesn't seem heavy at all, but rather very modern. For some reason I'm also getting that the nickname "Max" might not be inappropriate if you do want to shorten it.

I certainly don't see it as any heavier than other very "adult" old school names that are getting popular again, like Henry, Edward, Charles, or Victor.

I love Magnus! It's in my top five for boys.

I post on another board and there's a woman there with a little son named Magnus and it works wonderfully on him. Not too heavy or too much on him at all. It's definitely a "usable" name.

Magnus would be terrific. Love it. He would be one heart-breaker of a kid with a name like that -- and so distinguished for a grown man.

Maybe you could NN the child Agnus?

I love this name. I think it is a classic name ready for a revival. I dont think it is heavy at all. I think it will make a wonderful name for a son to grow into!
