Hmm, I'm not to keen on the "confederacy" associations this name has. Plus it's a wee bit trashy IMO. But I guess it's all right as a nickname.
I went to a school out in the boonies and one of the lunch ladies there was named Dixie. I also had ones named Starla and Vonnie. I'm not sure why country folks always have weird names like these.
I named my calculator this! After Texas Instruments...
I like the sound of the name, but unfortunately for it, it's just too ... theme-ish. Like already said, I'd name a pet (or calculator) after it, but a person would be too cheesy.

An amazingly sweet woman, with the most terrible "luck" in the world (her family just seems to experience crisis after crisis), so despite its sunny sound, it's got a touch of tragedy to it for me.
I like it as a pet's name mostly, or as a nickname for a more dour D-name like Delores.
