Kaja - would it work in an English speaking country?
As most of you know, I really like the name Kaya, Kaia for a girl. Lately I've also started to like Kaja.
So here's the problem: I'm German but I'm not sure whether I'll stay here after I finish my studies. I have a name that isn't exactly very international and I always thought it was a bit annoying when people mispronounced it or had no idea how it is spelled.
Kaia would probably be mispronounced in German as KY-ya (as Kai (pr. KY) is a common boys name here).
Kaya would be pronounced the way I want it to be pronounced (KY-ah) in both English and German. The downside: it's a Turkish boys name and we have quite a few Turkish immigrants living here even though I never met a male Kaya personally (I've met one female Kaya).
Kaja is the German standard spelling and would be pronounced the way I want it to be pronounced. However I fear in English speaking countries people would say KAY-ja and as I'm half French I also fear it will be mispronounced in France.
So what would you do? I think Kaya might be the best way to go as it won't get mispronounced in most countries yet I'm not sure whether that's my favorite. I prefer the look of Kaia, I guess. As for Kaja...it's growing on me and it's the spelling my boyfriend would want (I'm not pregnant we just talked about names recently) but I worry it's not international enough.
Opinions?

Yes
I think most people here would pronounce Kaja as KY-ah. That's how I pronounced it at first glance. But I also think I give "people" too much credit. Maybe they'd say KAH-zha more. Either way, it's not too complicated so a quick correction and she'd be on her way.

I personally don't pronounce KY-ya and KY-ah very differently...almost unnoticeable. I think Kaja would be pronounced mostly ok in English speaking countries too.
I think Kaja would be just fine. Even if people get it wrong at first, they will soon get used to it.
Go with the spelling you love best. People can mess up the most straight forward names, so you might as well use your favourite seeing as no mater how you spell it someone some where will get it wrong at some point. I grew up with noone ever spelling or saying my name right. Its not the end of the world :)
I like Kaia the best, but Kaja is nice too. Kaya is ok, but it just looks alot more trendy to me than the other two.

Sure.
I think most people in the US would figure it out. If not, you'd have to correct them, but that's not a big deal. As I've said many times before, I've had to correct people with a very simple name, so it just happens. And Kaja isn't super complicated.
It's very pretty spelled that way, I might add. I like it.
