Marion
I'm really starting to adore this name. I used to prefer Marian, but now I definitely prefer Marion. It seems very ahead of the curve. It was also the name of my great-great-great-grandmother.
How do you feel about Marion Elmira (nickname Mira [MY-ruh])? She was a very beautiful great-great-great-aunt of mine who died when she was around 20 [very sad circumstance there]. My grandmother has a huge portrait of her above her fireplace in her living room.
I'm thinking of incorporating the name into my list.

I really like the name Marion Elmira, it does have a touch of beautiful tragedy to it - even without the tragic story of your family behind it! Would it be a double first name? Marion Elmira in full? I assume so if you would use the nickname Mira.
Marion does seem a touch more "modern" than Marian. I myself prefer Marian, but only because Marion is a busy street in my city, so people might look at you askance if you named a child Marion. Like calling it "Main Street".

I think Marian is pretty, but Marion looks masculine to me. Marion Elmira is alright, but I don't really like the mari- and -mira sounds in the same combo.
I agree. Marion looks very masculine. I'd definitely prefer Marian.
